Installation
Installation of 440 Fence is very simple. The most important thing is to make sure the string you pull between two stakes is good and tight so your fence will be good and straight. Most of our customers either install their fence themselves or hire someone local to install their fence. You do not need a real experienced fence builder to build this fence.
The way 440 Fence is designed, it forces you to build the perfect fence. Every post will be exactly ten feet apart. It is important to note that you only build one section at a time. The most important thing you need to understand is measuring where the next post should be placed. It is our recommendation that you do not use a measuring tape. You s
imply put your bottom rail in the finished upright post and use it as your measuring stick. This tells you where your next hole needs to be and it will place your next post exactly in the center of the hole so it has plenty of concrete around it. A level with a magnet is required to make sure your post is straight when you set your concrete. It is very important that you
drill only one hole at a time as you are building your fence. If you use a measuring tape and drill a lot of holes you will be making a mistake. Remember, our posts have to be ten feet apart. Building one section at a time and drilling one hole at a time, professional crews are building from 500 to 1,000 feet per day.
Most people lay the materials out in front of their installation. They also put the connectors on the post. The professional crews use clamps to hold the connectors where they want them until they tighten them down. These clamps can be bought at Lowe’s or Home Depot for approximately $5 per piece. This does speed up the process. The clamps also allow you to adjust your rails to the right distance apart before you tighten them down with your allen wrench.
Do not cut your post off at the top until you have your fence completely built. This allows you to go back and adjust the rails to the perfect height. It is very simple to place all your rails on your fence. Place a string along the top showing where you want the top rail and then cutting a small stick as a template placing all the rest of your rails. After your fence is completed, you then go back and cut the post off approximately one inch above the fence. Your cap will cover up any mistakes
you make. It is very important that you wipe off the shavings from the cut of the post. If you do not, these shavings are raw steel; they will start to rust on top of your fence.
Some of our customers cut their posts off 6 inches above the top rail. This gives you an estate look. I must say it does look great. Most professional installers use a ratchet wrench with their allen wrench which gives them the leverage to tighten the screws down very tight. In addition to the allen wrench, you will need some type of saw to saw the top of the post off. If you come to a short section where you have to cut the rails, make sure and put the plug back into the end of the pipe.
All the professional crews that install 440 Fence use Sacrete. This can be bought at Lowe’s or Home Depot. It is important that you put enough water in each hole, however, you do not want to mix it to the point that it is lose.
